NEEBC has relabeled and reimagined our annual Health Insurance Market Outlook (HIMO). The redesigned HIMO, a proverbial HIMO 2.0, now labeled Health Industry Market Outlook focuses more broadly on health industry market trends from two perspectives – medical and financial – plus the interrelationships between the two.

This year’s program includes an additional focus on how the last twelve months will shape the future of the health and insurance industries. Employers will gain an understanding of what they and their CFOs need to consider now. Brokers, consultants and advisers will walk away with considerations for their clients.

Speakers:

Claire Levesque, MD - Chief Medical Officer, Commercial Products, Tufts Health Plan/Harvard Pilgrim Health Plan

Health Care Industry Outlook

Dr. Levesque will discuss the impact on the healthcare industry from the perspectives of delayed screenings, diagnoses, testing, procedures; mounting health issues and increased severity; growing behavioral health issues; COVID illness and long-term side effects; and social inequities. She also will share:

  • Other concerns, and how they are being addressed.
  • Questions being asked about medical care; how to re-engage members on importance of preventative care; and, how health plans are addressing these.

Dan Rachfalski - SVP and Chief Actuary, Aetna, a CVS Health Company

Cost Impact of Delayed Care and Outlook on Future Claims and Premiums

The data shows decreased care and lower claim volume during the pandemic. Dan will discuss the financial impact of COVID-19 and delayed care through the lens of a Chief Actuary including:

  • Financial impact of COVID on future claims and health care (medical and pharmacy); claim volume forecasts and expectations (employees and dependents).
  • Anticipated top drivers for pharmacy and medical costs.
  • How Chief Medical Officer concerns are factored into financial models.
  • General market trends.
  • How employers should plan.

Employer Panel:
