Employee benefits professionals need to understand the fundamentals of health and welfare plans – plan design, funding, compliance, voluntary benefitsplan statements and documentation – and how to communicate employee benefits to the workforce.

→Are you new to employee benefits or health and welfare plans?

→Are you changing disciplines or needing a refresher?

→Let NEEBC educate you on Health and Welfare Plan Basics!

Day 1: Fundamentals

Health and Managed Care are the starting points of your plan design. Beyond that, many plans also include additional, voluntary benefits such as life and disability.  Your benefits plans generally align with your organization's core values, and they are valuable recruitment, engagement and retention tools. This reality has never been more true. The curriculum includes the important art of communicating benefits to your workforce.

During day 1, you will learn about:

  • Health and managed care plan design
  • Life and disability benefits
  • Health and welfare plan communications

Day 2: Technical Competencies

Once your organization has defined its health and welfare plans, it must decide how to fund the plan based on its budget, risk tolerance, cost sharing decisions and cash flow considerations. Your organization also must ensure its plans are in compliance with the numerous legislative requirements for health and welfare plans, which include understanding and being able to explain to your employees the required monthly, quarterly and annual statements and documents.

During day 2, you will learn about:

  • Health and welfare plan funding
  • Health and welfare plan compliance
  • Plan companion documents
