MIT Human Resources seeks an individual to assume leadership responsibility for setting the direction and communicating the value of its compensation program, while creating ways to remain a world class work environment.

In partnership with the Vice President for Human Resources and in collaboration with MIT leadership, will lead the strategic planning, design, development, and implementation of MIT compensation programs; and create plans, policies, and programs designed to attract, retain, and engage current staff and prepare for future workforce trends. This individual in this position will play an essential role in HR and be a critical component of its leadership team.

Principal duties and responsibilities will include:

1. Directing the Institute's multiple compensation programs and recommending pay policy and guidelines; overseeing and directing the job classification process, including salary survey data collection and analysis and salary equity analysis; and directing use of the Institute's contingency funds to ensure that monies are used to address critical market issues

2. Overseeing the annual salary review processes for all job categories; ensuring the accurate and timely maintenance of all salary data in SAP; preparing all related communications; determining the need for Institute-wide training activities; making recommendations for SAP enhancements and in conjunction with HRIS Director, managing the expectations of the community

3. Providing direction to the Institute-wide Rewards and Recognition program.

4. Managing all executive compensation activities

  • Completing the annual Towers Perrin salary survey, preparing salary analysis, and completing all government-required corporation officer and senior officials to ensure IRS compliance
  • Advising the VP of HR and others, as requested, on executive hires and promotions and potential compression issues
  • May make recommendation on new aspects of executive compensation, as needed

5. Providing staff support to the salary subcommittee for their four meetings a year

6. On an annual basis, preparing in-depth competitive analysis of all faculty salaries.

  • Presenting results of AAUDE survey, MIT standings, and female/minority analyses to the Deans and Provost groups
  • Working closely with Provost on interpretation of results and distribution of Provost's reserve dollars

7. Reviewing salary ranges for support and administrative staff on an annual basis

  • Using market data, internal pay and equity issues, and appropriate compensation practices to analyze our position
  • Determining the need for increasing range minimums and maximums and allocating appropriate dollars

8. Recommending new programs and guidelines, as necessary, including MITemps, discretionary bonuses, and broad-based classification projects

9. Managing projects that affect the entire Institute; ensuring federal and state compliance in areas such as FLSA; working directly with internal and external auditors, e.g., DCAA

10. Preparing all compensation guidelines and other communications; identifying need for third party consultants; reviewing RFPs and selecting as appropriate; managing compensation budget.

Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of ten years of directly related experience. In-depth knowledge of all federal and state compensation related laws, regulations and reporting requirements, and new practices or developments in the field of compensation administration and design.
  • Thorough understanding of job classification practices, survey methods, and data analysis. Expertise with spreadsheet and database management applications. Strong interpersonal and presentation skills
