The successful candidate must possess 10+ years experience in benefits, with minimum 5 years in Benefits leadership role with experience developing, leading and implementing a multi-year health and wellness strategy. Candidate must have working knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations related to benefit plans and personnel record keeping requirements including but not limited to ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, FLSA, etc.; experience in best practices in benefit plan design, funding methods, cost savings strategies for health and welfare and defined contribution plans; plan utilization analytics; experience in the implementation of benefits best practices, development of metrics and measurements and development of a customer service delivery model required. Must have expert knowledge of Excel and Word; contract management is essential. Candidate must have demonstrated exceptional oral and written communication and presentation skills and ability to work with all levels of the organization. BA/BS; MBA desirable or equivalent work experience.

Ingredients to be a Successful Benefits Specialist:

  • Overall administration of health, dental, life, LTD, STD. flexible spending accounts for Boston Office, Boston Brewery & Sales employees. Provide general guidance and support to our local brewery HR staff on general benefit issues.
  • Overall administration of the company's 401(k) Plans (BBC, SAPB, and SABC), including processing of contribution files, coordination of issues/requests with record keeper, assist in non-discrimination testing, and annual plan audit.
  • Primary contact for employees on all benefits issues, including coordination with payroll and other areas as necessary. Serve as liaison with external vendors in resolving and troubleshooting issues as necessary.
  • Responsible for the coordination of leave of absence (FMLA, STD, and LTD) including notifying employee of initial eligibility, coordination with external vendors and payroll as well as answering employee questions in a timely manner.
  • Ensure enrollment data is consistent in all systems, audited, and maintained effectively.
  • Coordinate activities related to annual open enrollment and/or plan changes.
  • Attend monthly Orientations to educate new hires on benefit plans, policy and procedures, and answer their specific questions.
  • Receive, review and approve monthly insurance bills to ensure accurate billing of services rendered as well as prompt payment of bills so accounts remain in good standing.
  • Provide support and analysis on the research and evaluation of benefits plans to ensure cost effectiveness, market competitiveness, as well as company and employee satisfaction. Implement any plan changes according to established timeframes.
  • Assist in compliance with all regulatory requirements, including, but not limited to COBRA, HIPAA, and Massachusetts Health Care
  • Assist in the development of the health and wellness programs. Administer locally and provide direction across all locations. Manage annual health fairs, flu shot clinics, and other programs to support overall health & wellness.
  • Prepare draft Summary Plan Descriptions for all programs to ensure accurately reflects plan provisions and keep updated as plan changes are made.
  • Collect and maintain data needed to track metrics and used in the evaluation of benefit programs and total compensation strategy.
  • Assist with compensation benchmarking, surveys, and data collection for the Total Compensation Statement.
    To Be Mixed With:
  • BA/BS is required. CEBS designation (or currently pursuing) is preferred
  • 3+ years experience as benefits administrator, specialist, and/or analyst
  • Knowledge of legal compliance issues
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office applications, and the use of HR Systems
  • Demonstrated independent decision making skills. Ability to interact with diverse spectrum of employees, vendors, insurance carriers, etc
