The Senior Benefits Administrator's primary responsibility will be the administration of the firm's domestic and international welfare plans. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage leave of absence and FMLA program for the attorney population.
  • Responsible for most welfare benefit plan invoice payments.
  • Primary point of contact with COBRA/Inactive participants plan administrator.

  • Coordinate annual open enrollment; answer complex questions regarding policies and procedures related to available benefit programs.
  • Develop and coordinates the wellness program and a variety of other programs related to employee benefits and employee health/fitness.
  • Act as back-up for Benefits Department staff as needed including the retirement programs.
  • Participate in and provide support for special projects and other tasks as needed.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • A minimum of five years work experience in health and welfare plan benefits administration.
  • Knowledge of FMLA and COBRA regulations and requirements.
  • Proficient in Windows based applications, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint and our employee database PeopleSoft.
  • Positive attitude, good attention to detail and commitment to excellent customer service.

  • Oversee HR procedures to initiate benefits. Administer the annual open enrollment process. Provide in person and over the phone explanations of benefits, policies, procedures and programs. Consult with HR Generalists to provide answers to technical questions.
  • Resolve administrative issues with carrier representatives. Maintain benefit records and required documentation.
  • Work with vendors on a daily basis. Research and coordinate selection of providers for benefit coverage. Monitor and present recent trends in benefit coverage to management. Work with vendors to resolve employee benefit issues. Research discrepancies in statements. Monitor statements to ensure credit/debit has been issued for discrepancies.
  • Administer STD and LTD programs. Explain disability benefits to employees. Work with payroll regarding coordination of benefits. Coordinate ergonomic assessments.
  • Work with Oracle Direct Access and Benefits enrollment and changes. Create and run Discoverer reports. Create life events as needed. Verify and approve employee changes. Verify vendor feeds of employee information.

Skills/Experience Required:

  • Thorough understanding and knowledge of employee benefit principals, practices, procedures, and documentation.
  • Understanding of state and federal laws, rules and regulations pertaining to employee benefits.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to resolve employee issues in a timely and effective manner.

Job Summary:
The Sr. Benefits Analyst will administer Health, Dental, Life, 401(k), and other benefit programs in a manner that supports BJ's culture and ensures policy and statutory compliance within the budgetary guidelines. Additionally, the Sr. Benefits Analyst will; research and evaluate the effectiveness of all health and wellness programs and offerings aimed at attracting and retaining outstanding talent, assist with managing the Open Enrollment process, identify operational efficiencies and program cost savings, drive an outstanding customer experience, manage the daily administrative functions of the employee benefit programs and coordinate communications to employees.
Responsibilities:

  • Assist with planning and managing all aspects of the annual Open Enrollment process.
  • Manage the daily administration of various employee benefit plans including health and wellness, life and disability insurance, 401(k) plan, vacation, sick leave, leave of absence, Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA's), supplemental benefits, and other ancillary benefits.
  • Evaluate and compare existing employee benefits with those of other employers by analyzing other plans, surveys, and other sources of information.
  • Participate as a key contributor in the development and design of new benefit plans and communicate these recommendations to management for review.
  • Review and audit billing and benefit reports, reconcile benefit invoices and ensure bills are paid accurately and on time.
  • Analyze and verify monthly benefit premiums for all group insurance policies and maintain statistical data relative to premiums, claims and costs. Provide value-added recommendations based on outcome.
  • Facilitate the benefit payments with Treasury. Maintain and develop financial record systems and ensure accuracy and timely payment of invoices.
  • Research and resolve administrative and policy interpretation issues with vendors, and independently make decisions on these issues.
  • Ensure company compliance with all applicable local, federal and state regulations including ERISA.
  • Investigate and resolve issues related to an employee's payroll contributions for benefits.
  • Create monthly benefit usage reports comparing budget to actual and provide analysis to benefits management.
  • Manage relationships with benefits consultants, brokers, auditors, third-party administrators and insurance companies.
  • Develop and streamline processes to reduce manual intervention and maximize efficiency.
  • Assist in developing and improving benefits procedures, policies and forms to better facilitate the administration of the benefit plans.
  • Provide excellent customer service to Team Members through the timely and accurate resolution of routine and complex employee issues pertaining to company benefit programs.
  • Monitor and remain current with benefit trends, regulations, issues and best practices in the industry.
  • Assist in maintaining HR benefits on the intranet by updating all relevant forms, policies, procedures, documents and links to vendors.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or business administration, three to five years of relevant benefits experience or equivalent work experience,
  • Solid understanding of benefit plan principles, COBRA, ERISA, HIPAA, FMLA and other federal/state regulations related to benefits.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of benefits terminology, plan design, claims resolution, and compliance.
  • Ability to understand benefit contract language and evaluate proposals (RFP's).
